A bit more info on the New CTMH Alcohol Markers

Good Morning everyone,

Based on conversations on my Facebook page and through emails, I know that there are still a few questions about the New Alcohol Markers by Close To My Heart so I decided to post a bit more info.

The Basics:
  1. Each color comes with 2 markers for $5.95- the base color and a complimentary color.
  2. They are dual tipped, just like our other markers.
  3. They do not bleed outside the lines.
  4. They should be stored horizontally. The Exclusive Inks Organizer is perfect.
  5. They are not refillable.
  6. They should be shaken before using.
  7. Alcohol inks can be layered on top of each other for greater blending and an increased color palette.
  8. There is bleed through the bottom of your paper with these markers so you want to make sure you have scratch paper underneath, AND you don't want to color directly on your card. You will want to color the image and cut out OR layer onto your card or scrapbook page.
  9. Alcohol inks are waterproof and can be used on other mediums besides cardstock. These include things like canvas, candles and more.
  10. Make sure your fingers are clean because the alcohol will pull color off your fingers and onto the paper.
  11. You do need the Alcohol Blending Pen. The regular blending pen will not work.
  12. Do not use Staz On pads to stamp with because the alcohol markers will cause it to bleed.
  13. Use the Archival black ink pad or our new pigment ink pads to stamp your outline with.
  14. The base shade is the color that matches the Cardstock. The other marker is a complimentary color.

1. Marker Blending on paper
  • Start with your lightest color first when coloring your image.
  • Color evenly and smoothly in a circular motion to avoid streaks with the base color.
  • Use the darker color to add shading on the area you want.
  • Repeat this process several times till you get the blending you like.
2. Feather Blending
  • Works best with long and narrow images, like petals.
  • You need two different colors, and choose the lighter shade of each color.
  • Color the image with your first color, in one direction, coloring only about 3/4's of the way across the image.
  • Take your second color and do the same thing in the alternate direction, from the other side, about 3/4's of the way, until its not streaky.
  • Continue doing this until the color in the middle is a nice blend of the two colors. This can take up to 3 or 4 times of adding the colors to achieve the blended look you desire.
3. Fixing minor mistakes using the blending pen
  • The blending pen isn't so much a blender, but a color pusher.
  • If you colored outside the lines, grab the blender pen before the ink is draw and use it to "push" the color back inside the lines.
  • You can also use this pen to make polka dots or lines on images you've colored in because it will remove (push away) some of the ink you had previously colored on.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

These pens hold 10ml of fluid and come in a 3 pack for only $3.95. They are such a cool little accessories for a great price.

In a nutshell, you mix water and re-inker, or even alcohol and re-inker in the pen and spritz your projects with the concoction. You can even add pearl paint for a shimmery shine. a 3 Minute Shopping Spree at Close To My Heart!

Hey Everyone,

I just had to share this funny video with you. Last spring, Close To My Heart sponsored a contest for it's consultants and the winner's name was drawn and announced at the convention. The winner was Noreen Petty and this video shows what CTMH did to celebrate her success. Not only was she flown to the corporate office and treated like a queen for the day, but she also got a 3 minute shopping spree in the CTMH warehouse. If you ever wondered what our corporate office looked like, or better yet, the warehouse where the goodies come from, now is your chance to see. It's such a fun video and shows just how wonderful Close To My Heart is to their consultants!

Cruisin' layouts for those fun summer memories!

Good Morning,

Now you know if I was creating cards with the Cruisin' Workshop on the Go kit, I would also be creating some fun scrapbook pages. These layouts are unique in that the embellishments are from our new type of Complements: Foil Stickies. They gave my layouts a very retro feel and I had fun using them. Let me know what you think of them too!

Cruisin' in August!

Good Morning Everyone,

Today I wanted to share 3 cards that we will be creating in our class this month. All were inspired by artwork from CTMH and feature the stamp set that comes in the Cruisin' Workshop on the Go kit. I had a lot of  fun creating with this theme because it works quite well for masculine cards. It is always easy for me to whip up cutesy, fluffy, girly cards, but not so much for the manly side of things. I find this odd since I am a solitary woman in the midst of a male dominated household (4 sons and a hubby). Cracks me up! Anyway, you get my point... this set makes some great guy cards to help fill my stash up a bit. Enjoy! Tina

An Easy Advent Calendar & our New Home Decor Scroll

Good Morning,

Today I wanted to introduce you to two brand new kit types in the CTMH Autumn/Winter Idea Book. The reason these are different is that these kits create fun home decor projects that celebrate family.

The first item is our Scroll Album Kit. This is the cutest, and most unique home decor item I have seen in a long time. This kit creates a four-foot scroll album that can be displayed on a wall or mantel. Once unrolled, it reveals  memorable events or loved ones. I think this will make a wonderful Christmas gift for some of my family members.

The second home decor kit creates an Advent Calendar using our new  My Creations Cubby. Although this particular kit is highlighted as an advent box, there are so many different occasions you could create one of these countdown boxes for. I will be holding a workshop in November where everyone will create one.

So now what's the deal with Alcohol Based Markers??

Good Morning,

Yesterday I shared some information with you about our new Mini Pigment Pad sets and I mentioned that they could be used with our NEW Alcohol-Based Markers... which got me thinkin' .... perhaps I should do a quick overview on these goodies as well. You can see an example of the markers in the photo below. The color shown here is Hollyhock. And yep, both markers say "Hollyhock" on them. That is because when you order a color, you get 2 makers (a base and a shade color). How cool is that!

Let me share a little more info below:

  • 2 nibs (tips): A brush tip and a medium tip
  • 2 Markers come in each set (total of 80 colors)
  • Very smooth blending because of the alcohol base
  • No special paper is required to use these markers
Tips for use:
  • Use on White Daisy cardstock for most accurate color
  • Being alcohol based means they are ideal for blending
  • Use 3 layers for optimal color
  • Begin with the lightest marker first, ending with the darker color
  • Use with the pigment inks
Tips for care:
  • Keep the lids on when not using the marker
  • Store them horizontally (the Inks Organizer shown below is designed to hold these markers)
  • Shake the marker before using it
  • They are prone to the same normal wear and tear any marker will experience
  • These are not refillable

So whats up with these new Mini Pigment Pad Sets anyway?

Good Morning Everyone,

I've heard questions from a lot of you about our new  mini pigment pad towers so I thought today would be a good day to share information regarding these little beauties. For any of you not familiar with what I am talking about, here is a picture:

They are available in packs of ten, stackable,  mini pigment cubes- one collection for each category of paper: Basics, Enchantment, Adventure and Whimsy.

Here are some of the features:

  • Thicker,  more permanent ink, which means  slower drying time than our dye based inks
  • Can use with clear embossing powder. You now have 40 colors at your fingertips for heat embossing
  • Use light pressure when stamping with them
  • Colorfast so perfect for home decor items
  • No fading in sunlight
  • Can be used with our new Alcohol Markers
  • Work great on Fabric, and can be washed without fading
  • Resist bleeding when stamped, which means nice, crisp images
  • These are disposable, no re-inkable
  • Storing them upside down will keep the ink close to the surface for juiciest stamping
Please, feel free to email me with any questions regarding these little gems. If you would like to see them up close, visit my site and look up Mini Pigment Pad Sets.
