My Photos Are Organized and Printed, now What?

Good Morning,

I am glad you have joined me for the next post in my series about "The Most Photographed Generation that has NO Photos."

Today I wanted to dive into actually doing something with all of those photos that you have taken, organized and possible printed.

Yesterday I told you that there are 3 great approaches to memory keeping, and each is as good as the next. What it really boils down to is what YOU enjoy or prefer to do. And, you are not restricted to just one style... I personally do all 3 and mix them all into each album I create. That's just how I roll. Each has a definite pro for me, and I just roll with it. So let's jump right in.

1. Traditional Scrapbooking
This is when you take a pile of pictures, some paper, embellishments and adhesive and adhere them to a page, in any decorative way you choose, to be able to slide them into a page protector in an album.

This can be time consuming (if you so choose), or quick and simple, if that is your style... you see, there are NO RULES. All that matters is your story... for generations to enjoy and learn from. To see a sampling of the products I use when I create layouts this way, click here

Feeling overwhelmed? Don't be. One thing that sets CTMH apart from others is the fact that we teach you how to do this. One of my favorite products is our  "How-To" programs. Not only do they give you tips and techniques for scrapbooking, they also show you several different 2 page layouts, along with cutting dimensions and layout instructions. All you do is plus in YOUR paper choice and photos. So so so helpful!

I might be going out on a limb to say this is the most popular style of scrapbooking, but in all of my classes, this is definitely where people tend to start.

2. Digital Scrapbooking
This is the perfect medium for those who don't want to mess with physical trimming and glueing of their pages, but still want the beautiful pages that scrapbooking produces.
Close To My Heart has a unique approach to digital scrapbooking and its through our program called Studio J. What makes this unique?

  • Its FREE to use!
  • Nothing to download
  • No updates to keep up on
  • User friendly with a step-by-step approach of clicking, dragging and dropping
  • Its affordable
  • No more ordering prints
  • Get prints in unbelievable sizes without having to pay for enlargements
  • It's designed to help you create beautiful pages using all of the CTMH Products you know and love, but in a digital format
  • Oh... and its FREE to creat an account and play. Try it now!

3. Pocket Style Scrapbooking
The third style of scrapbooking you can create with is pocket style. It is just like it sounds... sliding photos into page protectors that have pockets. The neat thing is that you can get a lot of pictures into an album, in a very memorable way using this system. How you say? Well with Picture My Life kits of course.

Picture My Life is CTMH's newest product line and it is awesome. If you have been following this blog for any amount of time you have probably heard me talk about these cards a lot... and that is because not only do a scrapbook with them, but I also use them for tons of other projects too... like cards, home decor items or even mini-albums. Let me show you what they look like:

Basically you need your photos, an album, pocket page protectors and some fun accent cards. Here is a page I did recently.... 5 pictures and 2 cards created this 5 minute page. Easy Peasy right?

Here is a picture of all of my cards and how I store them.

And here is a picture showing you a sample of what the cards look like. This is just a small sample of all the cards that come in just one Picture My Life kit.

This post is getting long, so I will leave you here for today. You have even more to ponder as you consider getting your photos off of a digital device and into an album. Check back for more details.

Digital Memories of the Most Photographed Generation... Where do you start?

Good Morning Everyone,

After yesterdays article, I received some comments where readers told me they were so far behind in
printing their photos they don't even know where to start.... they are frozen by the overwhelmed feelings they have. So today I thought I would talk a little about how to push through that phase and get started.

For me personally, there are 2 approaches I would take.

The first would be to decide weather I wanted to work from my oldest photos forward, or start with my current ones and move backwards. There are pro's and con's of both options, and truly it comes down to a personal preference and the way your mind works. There is no right or wrong choice, you simply have to decide.

Once you decide, my recommendation is to get a small spiral notebook (that you can keep by your computer) and create a Month & Year Page title for each year. By doing that,  you can record what photos you have in each month.

I do this for 2 reasons.
1. If allows me to see in a snapshot what events or activites I took photos of that year so I can start thinking about what I want to scrapbook.

2. It allows me a place to record what I've printed or scrapbooked, once I've done it. It's a record system for me so I don't duplicate prints or scrapbook pages.

Now, once the photos are organized you are ready for the next phase of scrapbooking: Deciding how you want to approach getting those photos in an album. There is no right or wrong way, other than not having pictures to look at. :)

Here are 3 different Styles to consider:

1. Traditional Scrapbooking with paper, adhesive, trimmer and embellishments.
This is the approach most everyone thinks of when they  hear the word "Scrapbooking." It's how I got started, and one of my favorite ways to relax and do something I love.

2. Digital Scrapbooking where you do it all online and have your pages printed and shipped to you.

This too is pretty popular but for many, the term digital scrapbooking reminds them of something that is difficult to do, requires purchasing many different software programs or  memberships. Studio J is different. Its FREE to use, and very very user friendly... just click, drag, drop and done.
3. Pocket Style Scrapbooking using Picture My Life kits.
This is the newest approach to scrapbooking that has hit the market for this group of crafters and it too is awesome. If you are not keen on digital scrapbooking, but feel like traditional scrapbooking is just too far out of your comfort zone, THIS is the answer. I love it too.

Now that I have given you a few things to consider, please be sure to come back tomorrow for another post in this series: My Photos Are Ready, Now What? In this post I will jump right into each of these modes of scrapbooking. Memory keeping IS important... let me inspire you to believe you can conquer it.

The Most Photographed Generation.... but No Pictures to Show For It...

Good Morning everyone,

I recently read a GREAT article and I wanted to share it with you all. It is about the fact that we live in the digital age and therefore are taking more photos than ever... than ANY generation before us, and all of them combined. But where are the photos? Sadly most are in digital form ONLY.. and may be lost due to changes in technology. I know it sounds confusing, but if you take 5 minutes to read this article, you will see what I am saying.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear your feeback on this subject. As you know, I am passionate about recording memories of my everyday life for my children to view and enjoy for generations to come. What about you? Read and enjoy:

Music to The EyesTechnique Blog Hop

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop! This month there are 14 of us highlighting the “Music to The Eyes” technique, which focuses on using journaling pens to jazz up your artwork.

This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique.

If you are coming from Melissa's Blog, you are on the right track!

For my artwork, I chose to use the journaling pen on all of the photo mats of my Heartstrings Scrapbook kit. I love the look it adds to these layouts, and it is so easy. When the girls came to our class they asked if they were to do it freehand, and when I told them yes, they were a bit apprehensive. However, once they grabbed their pens, they fell in love with the technique.
Here are some close ups... see, all done by hand, and definitely not perfect, but perfectly fun! If you haven't tried this technique, I hereby challenge you to do so.

Now hop on over to Debi  Barber's blog to see what cute creation she has come up with!

A Valentines Mini Album with PML Cards and Deflecto Flexible Pouches

Good Morning Everyone,

I wanted to share my latest creation using the Picture My Life cards. Since Valentines Day is almost here, I decided to make my hubby and little mini album as a gift, celebrating all the the things we are blessed by... and to make it quick and simple, I chose to use some flexible pouches I had received from Deflecto Craft Solutions. At first glance they look like a luggage tag or name tag holder, but in reality, they can be used for so many things... mini albums included!

To get started, I found about 8 pictures that reminded me of how much our family  means to me. Once those were picked, the project came together in a snap. I grabbed my package of Flexible Pouches from Deflecto, the Heartstrings Picture My Life cards, silver sequins and shimmer trim.  A little trimming and gluing and in about 30 minutes, I had this little project completed. Yay! I think my hubby will love it. Now to get more of those pouches... lots of possibilites are twirling through my head.

Check out parts of my little creation:

And here is a sample of what some of the Picture My Life Cards look like that I used.
